What is the 6 Hour Defensive Driving Class?
The Point and Insurance Reduction Program, approved by NYS - DMV and sponsored by the Empire Safety Council is available through companies like Able 2 Driving School. This course will refresh your driving knowledge with a review of time-tested driving tips and an overview of today's vehicle and traffic laws. Each participant in this course may be eligible to reduce as many as four points on his/her driving record. The DMV computer will automatically note your eligibility to receive the reduction. If you are the primary operator of a motor vehicle, you may also receive a minimum of 10% reduction in the base rate of your automobile or motorcycle liability insurance premiums each year for a period of 3 years.
Able 2 Driving School offers the Point and Insurance Reduction Program classes near or at all Central New York's major shopping malls. Each session is conducted by one of Able 2 Driving School's certified instructors. Please review the classes below to find the classroom closest to you. How do I receive the Insurance Reduction after the class?
After you have completed the PIRP course you will be mailed a certificate. You will then take the certificate to your insurance agent to receive your minimum of 10% discount off of your liability & collision coverage. Check with your insurance company to see how their insurance reduction program applies to you. The reduction is valid for 3 years from the date you completed the PIRP.
How do I go about getting my Points reduced after the class?
After completing the course, New York State DMV will be notified that you have completed the PIRP course. Point reduction will affect only points accumulated during the 18 months prior to the course completion. "Points reduction" means the DMV will not count up to four points on your driving record toward revocation or suspension of your driver's license.
